The procedure of plant varieties registration in Ukraine includes the following stages:

1. Submission of the application and other accompanying documents by the applicant.

2. Payment of official fees by the applicant or its representative:

– for varieties registered in the EU: for submitting and considering the application, for state registration of the variety (if necessary, other fees may be paid);

– for varieties that are submitted for registration for the first time: for submitting and considering the application, for conducting the DUS-test, for conducting VCU-test, for state registration of the variety (if necessary, other fees may be paid, in particular for issuing a patent).

3. Submission by the applicant of seed samples for qualification examinations and seed samples for storage (if the variety is already registered in the EU, the applicant submits only a storage sample).

4. State registration of the variety by the competent authority.

5. Payment by the applicant each year the official fees for maintaining the validity of the property right to spread the plant variety and (if available) payment by the applicant each year of official fees for maintaining the validity of the property rights of intellectual property on plant varieties (validity of the patent).
